Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2025: What Aussie eCommerce teams can learn from the numbers

Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) continue to be Australia’s biggest online shopping moment, and 2025 proved again that the brands that plan are the ones who come out on top.

Beyond the hype, this period is a sharp reminder of what really drives performance: aligning your SEO and onsite experience with real customer intent before the rush hits.

The 2025 BFCM numbers (quick snapshot)

Here are the key takeaways from the sales period:

Shopify goes through the BFCM numbers

According to Shopify’s data team, Shopify merchants generated a record US$14.6 billion in sales over the 2025 BFCM period, up 27% year-on-year. The popular commerce platform handled purchases from over 81 million customers.

Australia ranked alongside the US, UK, Germany, and Canada as one of Shopify’s top-selling countries.

They revealed the hottest product categories for the spending season: cosmetics, clothing tops & pants, activewear, and fitness & nutrition, with an Average Cart Price of $114.70 ($112.29 on a constant currency basis).

The pattern is consistent: brands that invest early in strategy, content, and conversion don’t just “win the weekend”, they build momentum that carries into the months after.
