Mentoring Students at The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School

4 November 2021 Blog Posts

A hugely successful initiative that we have recently established was a mentoring program with students from The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School.

We saw an opportunity to provide pathways into the workforce and also promote future talent and future leaders, as we are active supporters of women in digital and supporting the local community.

It gave the students the opportunity to explore and learn more about what full time work in a digital marketing agency involves. It also provides valuable experience and professional development opportunities for our Mentors.

What the Sessions Involved

The Meet-and-Greet

The first session was an initial meet-and-greet. We:

  • Gave an overview of Megantic
  • Explained basic SEO practises
  • Discussed the purpose of the mentorship program
  • Set goals and learning objectives

Workshop 1: Life Lessons

In our second meeting, we focused on life lessons. James and Blake discussed:

  • Life skills
  • Dealing with setbacks
  • What success looks like
  • Working collaboratively in a team, and
  • Working in an office environment.

Workshop 2: Getting a Job

Jeremy and Catherine led the students in a job market and interviewing workshop:

  • How to create a high-quality resume
  • Preparing for a job interview
  • Participate in mock interviews with real hiring managers

Workshop 3: SEO

The fourth session was facilitated by Zan & Phillip and focused on technical SEO, eCommerce, finance and marketing. Here, the students learnt a little more about Megantic and the work we do for our clients. To learn more about us, please visit our Why Us page, which details why we focus on eCommerce clients, what organic search is, and how we can grow your business.

Workshop 4: Concluding

Our final workshop wrapped up the key learnings and allowed the students to ask any questions they had about office life, digital marketing, technology and eCommerce.

Feedback

The feedback that we received from students and our staff were both positive. Students noted that they thoroughly enjoyed the program and would recommend it to their peers, and our team felt that this program was “extremely rewarding”.

“To see this exciting program come to life and to have received such positive feedback from all the mentors and mentees involved is extremely rewarding”– Jeremy Hanger, Marketing & Sales Director

We hope to offer this mentoring program again next year and work with Mac. Rob Girl’s High School once again.
